Anyone who wants to find out how healthy their ovaries are.
Women who are at a later stage in life, may find it helpful to know whether their ovaries are still healthy and functioning as should. This test is also helpful for those who think they may be entering menopause.
Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is a glycoprotein hormone produced in the ovaries.
AMH plays a vital role in developing the sex organs of the baby in the womb. AMH levels are high in male babies which helps them to develop male sex organs and prevents them from developing female reproductive organs.
In women, there are cells inside the hairs of the ovaries that produce AMH. These follicles in the ovary contain and release eggs.
Levels of AMH correspond to the number of eggs that are in your ovarian reserve.
The higher the AMH level, the more eggs you have and therefore you are said to have a higher ovarian reserve.
