Why test for HIV?

Treatments now are so good, that with an early diagnosis and correct anti-viral treatment that is taken regularly, the virus can be suppressed to such low levels it becomes undetectable. This means that that not only is your own health protected so that you can live a long and healthy life, but incredibly, you can't pass it on.

Undetectable equals Untransmittable (U=U) is a global movement to help educate people about how treatable HIV is and help to end the epidemic. BioSure is a proud U=U partner.

But to know if you need to take treatment, your first step is to test. Because if you don't test, you don't know - and if you don't know, you can't treat.

How can you test for HIV with oral fluid when you can't catch HIV from kissing?

It is absolutely confirmed through years of global research that you cannot catch HIV from saliva.

Although there are more antibodies in a blood sample than in oral fluid, the volume of an oral fluid sample is much greater and this is why the accuracy of oral fluid antibody HIV tests are comparable to those of blood based antibody HIV tests.

The OraQuick HIV Self Test has been proven to be more that 99.7% accurate in multiple studies across the globe.

It's never been easier to take control of you.

What is the HIV Window Period?

Everyone produces antibodies at different rates, dependinh upon their immune system.

About half of people have produced antibodies to HIV (seroconverted) by 4 weeks after transmission. This goes up to about 95% of people by 6 weeks, but some people make their antibodies up to 12 weeks after transmission.

This is why you can test from 4 weeks after possible exposure, and although encouraging, you must not rely on a negative result until 12 weeks after exposure.

A positive test result is always a positive test result regardless of the window period.

How accurate is the OraQuick HIV Self Test?

The OraQuick HIV Self Test is proven to be extremely effective at diagnosing HIV and is now CE marked for use in Europe and the UK.

Extensive research performed across the globe, has evidenced the kit to be exceptionally usable and tremendously accurate when performed correctly.

It has a proven clinical sensitivity (if a person has HIV how often the test result will correctly be positive) of more than 99.9%, and a proven clinical specificity (if a person doesn’t have HIV how often will the test be correctly negative) of more than 99.8%.

3 simple steps is all it takes...

or as we like to say, 'Swipe. Dip. Done'

Just an easy and pain free swab once of your top and bottom gums, place your test device into the tube of liquid and get your own results in 20 minutes.

Come on, it's never been easier

Can I trust my result?

A vital part of self-testing is knowing whether you have performed your test correctly and that you can trust your result.

Well, we at BioSure can confidently say that if you have at least one line on your OraQuick HIV Self Test, then you have performed your test correctly and your result is reliable.

The OraQuick HIV Self Test have a special inbuilt feature called a Sample Control Line. This means the negative line can only appear if you have applied enough oral fluid. If you haven't used enough oral fluid then no lines will appear.

This is the only way you can be sure you have performed your test correctly and be confident in your result.

Why should I test regularly

Some people have a single possible exposure to HIV whilst others may make choices that mean that could have more frequent risk of exposure.

Testing regularly for HIV, in the same way as you would regularly visit a dentist, means that you stay in control and can be confident in the choices that you make.

As we can't stop shouting, HIV is a treatable condition and the earlier it is diagnosed the better the outcome.

The same but different

The OraQuick HIV Self Test brought to you by BioSure uses
lateral flow technology very similar to a pregnancy test, but it detects the specific antibodies to HIV (not actual HIV)

When your body detects something harmful (like a bacteria or a virus) your immune system starts to produce antibodies. Each type of antibody is unique, and everyone develops them at different rates (see Window Period below)

Like pregnancy testing, you get your own easy-to-read, accurate
result while you wait.

Self-testing puts you in charge, so you can test where you want,
when you want and with who you want.
